About

This website records the random σχόλια (scholia) of Stanley N. Helton. I’m currently pursuing a PhD in New Testament at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. I also serve as research assistant at the Center for New Testament Textual Study where I do various things related to textual criticism. Out of my work in the area of biblical scholarship, I wanted a place to record random insights, comments, articles ideas, and anything else that might come to mind related to scholarly biblical study.

The name of the site (that is, scholia) comes from a Greek word (from the 1st Cent BCE on) that referred to comments, sometimes grammatical and sometime explanatory, inserted in the margin of a manuscript of an ancient writer.

So herein you will find the kind of notes, I might write in the margins of all the books I’m now reading!

Hi, Stan – enjoy following you, hope we can get together again someday over coffee 😉 Wondering: do you have any recommendations re whom to read for the latest work on the question of whether 1 Cor 14.33-34 is an interpolation? I’ve read Fee and Payne, but both sources I have are dated before 1996. Has any noteworthy new work been done? Thanks.
